Farewell Obama

Source: Vogue

I am not into politics but I'm very aware of everything and eager to know what is going on around me. When President Obama took office I was 6 years old...old enough to know that he made history being the first black-African American president in the white house.

As I grew older I started to understand the power of being a president, the expectations to fulfill and the difficult choices to make. The Obamas are always in the public eye and are seen as an example to the United States as well as the rest of the world and a huge example to me.

President Obama and his family have become a huge inspiration (not that I am planning to run for office!) They inspired me because they were real, authentic and taught me that anything is possible with hard work.

I admire the girls for not being phased by all the public scrutiny and the constant pressure they were under. Sasha was just 1 year older than me when her father took office she has grown up in the White House and it is their family home. I couldn't imagine how it must feel to move out now. They pride themselves on the normality of their lives- Sasha was not present at her father's farewell speech because she had an exam. They are both beautiful and hard-working and have an amazing dress sense. They're incredibly fashionable girls and I take inspiration from them in more way than one.

The first lady, well, she was just something else...not your 'normal' First lady. An image of elegance and class whilst promoting health and equality. She was fun, fashionable and the ultimate role model. She had the role of First Lady thrust upon her and did a mighty good job. She will be greatly missed and I pray that Melania will measure up.

President Obama was a kind, compassionate, charismatic and a fantastic leader. He achieved so much in his presidency and still remains optimistic for the future. Personally, the legalization of gay marriage in America was one of the best things to come out of his time as president. I hope that this attitude towards the LGBTQ+ community continues although Trump has expressed that he is homophobic.

I was hoping at history could be made once again with the first female president, however Donald Trump was elected. I do not intend on expanding on my thoughts on Trump, but all you need to know is that I was so devastated on inauguration day that I cried.

I will miss Obama and everything he has contributed to the world. They're family have been a great inspiration to me and I wish them the best of luck in the future as I try to stay just as optimistic.
