I am happy when I am dancing

My much loved  ballerina bed set!
Ballet has been a massive part of  my life since I was just five years old. I started school at an all girls prep school so we were all introduced to it. As we grew older, a lot of my friends stopped dancing but I did not. I love it. I was born with a sway back, a condition called lordosis which means I have a curved spine. So my pelvis sits at the wrong angle which causes my bottom and my stomach  to stick out more than normal. My condition is sometimes painful, not life threatening but it means I do not have the typical 'ballerina frame'. It is actually harder for me to get the right posture when dancing which means I have to work even harder! I do not mind the hard work as I love dancing. I am working towards my grade four of the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. I have really been inspired by the stories of  two American ballerinas, Misty Copeland and Michaela Deprince. I do not aspire to be a prima ballerina even though I love dancing but their stories gave me the push to just do what I love. I love the fact that they never gave up because they were different. When you love something you stick at it no matter what.  In just a few weeks I will be taking both my grade 4 ballet and modern dance exams. Wish me luck!
Misty's autobiography is one of my favourite books

A birthday present!

Michaela DePrince was known as girl Number 27 at the orphanage where she was abandoned at a young age and tormented as a “devil child” for a skin condition that makes her skin appear spotted. But it was at the orphanage that Michaela would find a picture of a beautiful ballerina en pointe that would help change the course of her life. Watch her story here
